Fall Festivals Abound

Here in the Northeast Kingdom, we are treated to spectacular autumn scenery. Communities throughout the area take this opportunity to hold festivals, where locals and visitors alike can be immersed in the sights, the scents, and the flavors of fall.

The Newport Fall Festival and Chamber of Commerce Chili Challenge Cook-Off will take place on Saturday, September 28 with events running from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., including a classic car show, quilt show, and farmers’ market, as well as photo and scarecrow contents. The same day will also be the first Downstreet Business Expo (scroll down for more details).

In St. Johnsbury, organizers are planning two events. The first is the all new Historic St. Johnsbury Fall Festival planned for Saturday, September 28, which will combine the efforts of community organizations on Main and Summer streets to highlight the town’s historic district. Events include the St. Johnsbury History & Heritage Center’s annual Festival of Traditional Crafts, an antique engine demonstration organized by the Vermont Gas & Steam Engine Association, and the Friends of the Athenaeum’s annual Pie Sale.

On Saturday, October 12, Discover St. Johnsbury’s Fall for St. Johnsbury Festival will include fall foliage train rides, live music, and an artisans market.

The 35th annual Burke Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 28. Events throughout the day include horse-drawn wagon rides, craft fair, petting zoo, live music, and a parade at 10 a.m.

Davnville’s 21st Autumn on the Green, featuring more than 200 local and regional crafters, food, and live music from the bandstand, will be held on Sunday, October 6, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
