Town Name: Jay
Population: 551
Area: 34.0 mi²
General Area Info: Jay Vermont is home to Jay Peak Resort. Jay Peak is the highest mountain in the region at over 4,000 feet. From the top of the mountain the view is astounding. On a clear day it is said that you can see the Adirondacks, the White and the Green Mountains, while Mount Royal and the city of Montreal are in the distant. The number of rivers, lakes, and towns that you can see from the crest may also impress you.
Many avid skiers and boarders feel that Jay Peak is the best ski mountain on the east coast. The mountain has undergone some recent development with the goal of becoming a four-season resort. The first step of this was to build an 18-hole golf course which has some very challenging terrain. In 2009 a new hotel was constructed. The style of the building really makes you feel like you are in Colorado. Inside you will find some interesting details such as some tram towers and cable in the Tram Haus Bar. A new restaurant (Alice’s Table) as well as a café are also inside the hotel. In 2010 an indoor hockey arena was finished and opened as well as the new clubhouse for the golf course. In 2011 the second hotel, which is about twice the size of the first, was completed and it includes an indoor water park with a retractable roof. 2013 Brought the new Stateside base lodge and a medical and learning center. There is also an indoor recreational center with a climbing wall and a 200 seat state-of-the-art theater.
Jay Vermont is bordered to the north by Canada and it is only about 90 miles from Montreal so the mountain welcomes an abundance of Canadian visitors. It is also only about 60 miles to Burlington and about 25 miles to Newport, which is home to Lake Memphremagog.
The village of Jay is located at the base of the mountain and although small it has a lot to offer including the Jay Country Store, to the Jay Village Inn, and the Cedar Wood Resort. The town also has a great elementary school, which is shared with the town of Westfield.
If you are considering investing in Real Estate and like the idea of a four-season resort town, Jay Vermont is well worth considering. Property values have remained reasonable through the start of the development but it is likely that they will climb substantially after the construction is complete and the resort activity picks up.
