Effective as of August 15, 2017, Vermont's Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) regulations require that all aboveground heating oil, kerosene and diesel storage tanks need to be inspected at least once every three years. The regulations clarify when tanks need to be inspected and when a fuel dealer must red-tag a tank. The Vermont Petroleum Cleanup Fund (PCF) offers financial assistance to residential tank owners toward the removal, replacement or upgrade of both aboveground and underground fuel oil storage tanks. If you do not qualify for financial assistance from the state of Vermont, you may be eligible for a $250 rebate when replacing a non-compliant tank.
