Great Hosmer Pond – Great Hosmer Pond, located in the towns of Craftsbury and Albany, is a narrow lake offering a variety of recreational opportunities, from boating and fishing to swimming and wildlife viewing. It has a surface area just under 150 acres, an average depth of 20 feet, and a maximum depth of 57 feet. Coniferous and mixed forests line much of its shoreland, which help prevent erosion. Boaters have access to Great Hosmer at the Gordon Wing Access Area on the southeast side. It is open to anglers year-round and is home to Yellow Perch, Chain Pickerel, Large and Smallmouth Bass and Bullheads. Bird lovers will delight in the variety of feathered friends they may catch a glimpse of or hear among the trees, as at least 34 bird species have been reported in the area. Connect with the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, which coordinates the Hosmer Community Rowing program for scullers on Great Hosmer, as well as offering an indoor fitness center, single-track mountain bike trails, and 105k of groomed Nordic skiing trails.
